The Culprit in Your Cookie Dough

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a new report that revealed some nasty germs lurking about in your ready-to-bake cookie dough. The report`s lead author Dr. Karen Neil along with her colleagues at the CDC, that this is what has caused 77 people across 30 states to become ill, 35 of which required hospitalization.

The bacteria responsible for these illnesses--E coli--which has been found in samples collected from the factories and has ultimately lead to the recall of 3.6 million packages of cookie dough. Even though the investigation was in-depth, the CDC is not able to name which ingredients specifically were responsible for the contamination. Since flour doesn`t go through the special kind of processing to kill off pathogens as other ingredients do, Neil has suggested that flour could have been the problem. So before you steal another morsel of that raw cookie dough before you bake it--you might want to think twice!
