Drinking Water
How much water do you really need? Magazine articles and websites often cite the mantra, "drink eight glasses a day," but few really explore it. Now health experts are saying it may not stand up to reality.
Although even the British National Health Service repeats this popular wisdom, scientists say there's no evidence of any health benefit from drinking large amounts of water.
Water consumption can be beneficial for people who suffer or are at risk for certain conditions, such as kidney stones, but healthy people get no particular benefit. The human body can absorb water from foods and other drinks and a normal diet will provide enough.
Though most people need make no special effort to get enough water, it is a healthier thirst-quenching choice than sugary sodas and juices.
