Diabetes On the Rise Part One
We`re sure that everyone is well aware that obesity is on the rise in the U.S.It seems as though you can`t turn on the news or go online without seeing at least ONE report, ad or infomercial about how to lose weight or the dangers of being obese. As much as obesity is on the verge of becoming an epidemic, there is a much greater threat being presented as a result--Diabetes. At one time, this diagnosis was a death sentence. In 1776 Matthew Dobson confirmed that the sweet taste in the urine and blood was due to excessive sugar in the body, but very little else was known about the dynamic of this disease. Our understanding of Diabetes today, however, is more comprehensive than ever. So why is it on the rise? A couple of factors are playing a part. One is that Americans are leading more sedentary lifestyles than they once were, and the economy surely plays its role well. With budgets tight, it makes it more difficult to afford healthier foods. But there ARE solutions. Primarily with Type 2 Diabetes, the more aggressive you are about implementing changes, the better off you`ll be. There are certain steps towards gaining control over your disease that can`t afford to be missed or glossed over. These steps can be activated through both diet and exercise and can dramatically improve your blood glucose levels,as well as your hemoglobin A1C. In truth, this disease (type 2 anyway) can very much be controlled through maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Being aggressive could afford you a level of control where you`ll know longer be insulin dependent and could easily manage your blood glucose levels with oral medication rather than injections. You might even be able to come off the medications altogether. Whether or not you take those necessary steps is entirely up to you--but, think about what you`ll be risking if you don`t.
