Cause and Effect
Sometimes when you hear the list of side-effects when starting a new medication or medicinal therapy it can be a little daunting. Many people find themselves in a literal position of being between a rock and a hard place--take the medication and deal with the side-effect, or don`t take it and deal with the disease on your own. Unfortunately for diabetics, especially Type I Diabetics, insulin is a matter of life and death.
Sanofi, the manufacturer of the world`s top-selling insulin Lantus, is now being linked with doubling the risk of cancer in diabetics. The information was presented today at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, which was based on research conducted on 23,266 patients in southern Sweden. This is not the first time Lantus has been linked to cancer, but the investigation done this past January by U.S. regulators proved inconclusive. There has already been a correlation tying breast cancer to diabetes, but unfortunately now that risk maybe doubled by the very same medication meant to save a diabetic`s life
